I wrote this email to Nicholas Cotsonika, and it expresses my view so its all I’m gonna post here. I would have this opinion regardless of my fandom, its the hypocrisy of the process that bothers me more than the hit itself.
Glad you spoke out on the Weber incident. It strikes me as massively hypocritical that in an age where we hear so much about head shots and concussions, Weber essentially skates free with a minor dent in his wallet. Now, I would never compare the end result or severity of the two incidents, but what Weber did is reminiscent of Bertuzzi/Moore, with the glass substituted for the ice, and thankfully nothing serious became of it. But the fact that Zetterberg is unhurt does not change the fact that the act COULD have caused a very severe injury and possibly threatened a career if things had happened slightly differently. Regardless, I think it sends a conflicting message to fans (further diluted by this ridiculous notion of weighing playoff games differently.) Kudos on your piece.

Its absolutely baffling how everyone is down on Ericsson and thrilled about Mike Commodore.
Commodore is a 7th D man who spent much of last year in the AHL because he couldn’t even crack Columbus’s lineup. Great guy, sure, but Kindl and Brendan Smith will see the majority of time.
Meanwhile Ericsson will be playing with Lids and growing by strides after a “down” year in which he still managed a +8 and was fairly consistent in his own end. His offense stands to go back up with increased opportunity. Trust me this deal will look fine by next season, and Kronner/Ericsson is something to be excited about in the future.
